"I'm so comfortable in the skin I'm in, I'm secure about who I am!" *singing*
I tell you self- love is the best love!
Hello Stylish Beauties! Hello June!
Ahhh... It's finally June! I am so excited for this Summer. I have lots of exciting plans, including getting lots of sleep. :-)
However, one of the main things that I am looking forward to is... my ONE YEAR NATURAL HAIR ANNIVERSARY!!! Yes! I am so excited, July 22nd can not come fast enough. So as I begin to prepare for that I decided to take a trip down big chop lane. *Tears* Precious memories...
I remember my big chop like it was yesterday...
It was a scorching hot NYC day. July 22, 2011 to be exact. I was going through what I considered a hair crisis at the time because I had cut my hair in a short hairstyle in December 2010 and it was starting to grow out more and more. I just couldn't keep up with it anymore. It was still too short to really style and even though I loved the cut during the winter days, once it got warm I found myself going through the ultimate perm and flat iron stage. I was trying to do whatever it took to keep my hair straight so it could look decent.
I was beginning to get very frustrated with my hair and I knew I really wanted a change. It was time for a change! On this particular morning I woke up and looked at my hair refusing to have to deal with it another day. I was angry at the thought of not being able to do much with it. It had already been about two months since my last perm, so, I knew I had to do something fast. I quickly logged on YouTube searching for videos on "how to do a Rhianna style haircut at home". I had no intentions on going natural! At that time I did not even know what the term "going natural" meant. I just knew I wanted something very different. As I was searching I came across various videos from women across the world, but, none seem to be what I was looking for.
Then after about an hour of searching I came across a video of a women doing her own big chop (BC) at home. This video gave me the motivation I needed to get that different look. I watched the video about five times, paying close attention to how she cut her hair. Then I logged off of YouTube. I went straight to the bathroom, found my barber scissors and took a deep breath. I started cutting and cutting and cutting until I was satisfied. Talk about a weight being lifted off your shoulders... this was a MAJOR one! It's really amazing what a haircut can do.
After I finished cutting I sprayed my hair with water and stared into the mirror, touching my hair over and over for about five minutes. I did not know what I really did or how I was going to feel the next day. All I can say is at that very moment... I FELT SO, SO GOOD!
